Famous Chicago Gangsters
67The Windy City
Chicago has always been a haven for gangsters, mobsters, and all types of hoodlums.
The intent of this hub is to list some of the most famous Chicago gangsters, with pictures to go with.
Scroll down and take a look how wild a place Chicago has been.
Al Capone
Al grew up in Brooklyn,New York.Capone got hooked up with the mob in New York and moved to Chicago to work for Johnny Torrio. The Torrio/Capone gang were notorious killers. They killed off most of the other gang leaders and then Capone took control from Torrio.Al Capone was now the king of the Chicago underworld. He had his hands in every crime there was.He made millions.
The police never could nail him on any crimes except tax evasion. He was sentenced to 11 years, but released early because he had syphylis.
Here are many pictures of Capone and others.
He was sure not some one you would want to cross as you can see from the bottom picture.
Sam "Momo" Giancana
Another big Chicago mobster who was in prison when Capone came into power was Sam Giancana. Before prison,he ran the 42 gang. They were ruthless and the biggest neighborhood gang in Chicago.
Giancana grew into such a large boss in the Chicago outfit, that he was in good with Joseph Kennedy which led to him keeping both John and Bobby Kennedy from taking him down with the McClellan commission.
In 1975,in Mexico,Giancana was killed by his own gang.
MORE
There were and are man, many more Chicago gangsters. The newest;the Vice-Lords,terrorize and murder all the time.As far as I can tell, the government will never rid Chicago of gangsters.
I will leave you with many more pictures of these mobsters, gangsters, and victims on the streets of Chicago.

Yep, Chicago is what Chicago is!
Many years ago in the 20's I believe my mother was mixed up with a gangster in Chicago. My Mom's sister told me after my Mom passed away. My Aunt had said that it had imbarrased the family. She was supposed to have her picture on the front page of a newspaper with this person. I am trying to find out if this is true. If anyone can give me an idea how to do this I would deeply appreciate it.

Great hub full of good information, though some of the characters on this page are truely frightening. I sometimes imagine what it would be been like to be alive in that era but it scares me to think of what they got up to.
