Where The Easter Bunny Came From
63
I have always wondered where the Easter Bunny came from. I did some studying and have found the origin.
The Easter bunny goes back to paganism. When Christianity came to be the pagan holiday and the celebration of Jesus' resurrection were combined into one holiday.
Christian's found it difficult to seperate new converts from some of there old beliefs,so they would just incorporate them into Christianity.
The spring festival was a fertility celebration to the Goddess Eastre; hence Easter.
Many churches have recognized that even the name Easter was pagan, so they have started calling it resurrection day.
As for my opinion on all this; I am, I consider, a strong Christian. I am very, very happy when I think on our Lord's resurrection from the dead. Happy, gleeful children also make me happy. Let them have their Easter bunny and the candy and chocolate, but also teach the children about Jesus. In my opinion, their choice should be theirs and no one else's.
Resurrection
According to the Gospels, Jesus rose from the dead on the third day after his crucifixion.[31] The Gospel of Matthew states that an angel appeared near the tomb of Jesus and announced his resurrection to Mary Magdelene and "another Mary" who had arrived to anoint the body (Matthew 28:1–10). According to Luke there were two angels (Luke 24:4), and according to Mark there was a youth dressed in white (Mark 16:5). The "longer ending" to Mark states that on the morning of his resurrection, Jesus first appeared to Mary Magdalene (Mark 16:9). John states that when Mary looked into the tomb, two angels asked her why she was crying; and as she turned round she initially failed to recognize Jesus until he spoke her name (John 20:11–18).
The Acts of the Apostles state that Jesus appeared to various people in various places over the next forty days. Hours after his resurrection, he appeared to two travelers on the road to Emmaus (Luke 24:13–35). To his assembled disciples he showed himself on the evening after his resurrection (John 20:19). Although his own ministry had been specifically to Jews, Jesus is said to have sent his apostles to the Gentiles with the Great Commission and ascended to heaven while a cloud concealed him from their sight. According to Acts, Paul of Tarsus had a vision of Jesus during his Road to Damascus experience. Jesus promised to come again to fulfill the remainder of Messianic prophecy.

I agree with you Frogg, children should be taught about the real message of Easter and not just about Easter Bunny and Easter egg.
I'm with ya to Froggy, very nice ")
I agree also but have something to add. Paganism started before Jesus was born to Mary, but Jesus has always been. He was in the beginning. Most pagan rituals are rip offs of temple worship in the Old Testament.
Sorry if it seems I got off-topic.
Its the first time Ive heard of this, though as a Christian, I knew Easter Egg Hunting (or just the Happy Easter greeting) is a pagan practise. Ive always greeted people happy resurrection day, which this year, happens to be my birthday! Im blessed!
Very interesting read Froggy!
Thanks for this informative hub. Because of Christ's resurrection, we have eternal life, that is what we should be thankful for most especially during Easter. Great hub.

I like your blog Froggy. However, at some point you say the choice should be the childs and the childs alone, but in my opinion, we're not really giving them a choice when we stuff some made up character down their throats and say, 'Believe in it, or don't.' Truthfully we shouldn't expect them to believe lies, or we're training them to accept untruths..... God Bless you. Nice Blog!
I was about to look up for this information and my dear Froffy213 had already done the work. Thanks like always doing good job. Blesses and may people recognize the real definition of easter.
